In light of the recent developments surrounding the Covid-19 Pandemic, GħSL – Malta Law Students’ Society would like to announce that it is postponing all upcoming events. With this, we keep the safety and health of the student body and their families as our top priority.
More specifically, given the statement issued by the International Law Students’ Association a few hours ago, through which the JESSUP 2020 International Rounds in Washington DC, USA have been cancelled, we would like to announce that no Maltese team will be travelling to the United States in April 2020.
These decisions have not been taken lightly: We recognise the work done by our Executive Board members, as well as our Sub-Committees, in organising these events, as well as the logistics behind them. However, we are of the firm opinion that prevention is better than cure whenever necessary. And in this light, we'll do our small part in ensuring the health of every member in the foreseeable future.
Last but not least, we urge the authorities to suspend all lectures at the University of Malta, and instead conduct them via electronic means, this to strike a balance between the health and safety of the student body as well as their education. We will also be considering alternative forms of assessment other than examinations, given the circumstances. To this end, GħSL will be present at the KSU KPS meeting on this subject which will be held tonight at 7pm. We encourage law students to reach out to us with any queries or suggestions – we will be sure to voice them during tonight’s meeting on their behalf.
Therefore, we kindly ask law students to fill in the form attached below:
We urge all students to take necessary precautions to prioritise their health in order to safeguard themselves and others.
